Kioxia and Western Digital jointly inaugurate Fab 7 for the production of Flash memory



A few months ago we told you how two large memory manufacturers, Kioxia and Western Digitaljoined forces to start making memory together taking advantage of the extensive experience of both. Just 6 months later, and just as planned, the factory has opened its doors and begins the manufacture of Flash memory with last generation technology.

This plant, which they have named Fab7, is found in the complex that has Kioxia in Yokkaichi in Japan. This factory has been possible thanks to the collaboration of both companies, where a total of one trillion yenwhere too the local government has collaborated to promote the construction of this type of plant for the manufacture of semiconductors that supplies Japan.

At the moment production is limited in this first phase, but it will gradually increase. The FAB 7 has technology to produce sixth-generation 162-layer flash memory and the first orders are expected to be available in early 2023.
