Geeknetic Kingston NV2 entry SSDs make the leap to PCIe 4.0, although they remain at speeds of 3,500 MB/s 1

After a year and a half since the arrival of the Kingston NV1, some SSDs that sought to offer an adjusted price and that were located in the entry range of storage units of this type of the company, Kingston has announced the second generation, the Kingston NV2.

The most significant change is found in the jump to the NVMe 1.4 standard, going from PCI Express 3.0 to PCI Express 4.0. They are accompanied by a Phison E19T controller without RAM. With this hardware they are capable of 3,500 MB/s read and 2,800 MB/s write, both sequential, so we don’t really have any apparent performance advantage in making the jump to PCIe 4.0. Recall that PCIe 3.0 SSDs can already reach 3,500 MB/s.

However, being entry-level SSDs, we can see that they are already at the level of the fastest PCIe 3.0 SSDs.

The Kingston NV2 will arrive in capacities ranging from 250 GB to 2 TB, with intermediate models of 500 GB and 1 TB

In principle, they will arrive with QLC-type 3D V-NAND memory cells, although it remains to be seen if these models repeat Kingston’s controversial strategy of launching them with different types of memory as a “lottery”. Although on that occasion the problem was in announcing TLC and selling models with QLC (worse features) – In this case, by announcing already with QLC we assume that there will not be this “problem”.

Kingston promises a 3-year warranty and a lifetime starting at 80TB written on the 250GB model and going up to 650TB written on the 2TB model. The 500 GB models support 160 TB of data written, and the 1 TB up to 320 TB.

At the moment, the company has not put them up for sale in Spain, and their prices are unknown.
