Jan. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has claimed that recent desecrations of the Koran by far-rightists in Sweden and the Netherlands “show that the attacks of arrogant powers are directed against Islam.”
Khamenei has criticized through his account on the social network Twitter the “insane desecration of the Koran” and has stated that it has been committed “under the slogan of freedom of the press.” “The Qur’an shines brighter every day and the future belongs to Islam, despite the plots of arrogant powers,” she said.
“All those who seek the freedom of the world must stand on the side of the Muslims when it comes to confronting the evil plots to insult the sacred and to spread hatred,” he stressed.
For his part, the Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi, has condemned these events and has stated that “those who insult religion, the Koran and the prophet, insult all the Abrahamic religions and humanity as a whole”, according to what he has collected. Iranian news agency Mehr.
The events criticized by Iran have taken place in recent days. Over the weekend a Koran was burned outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm during a protest led by right-wing politician Rasmus Paludan, an act condemned by the Swedish government.
Days later, Edwin Wagensveld, a senior member of Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA), trampled on and tore a Koran during an act in the Netherlands in support of the aforementioned burning of a Koran in Sweden.
