Larijani asks to “be very intelligent” and “not fall into the trap” of Israel, which “seeks to drag Iran into the conflict”
Nov. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Ali Larijani, advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned against carrying out a “knee-jerk” response against Israel for the bombings carried out last month against Iranian territory and has warned that the Israeli authorities “seek to drag “They will go into conflict.”
“We have to be very intelligent at this point,” he said, before reiterating Khamenei’s call to “not fall into this trap.” “There is no need to show instinctive behavior. Our action and reaction must start from a strategic point,” he added.
Thus, he has maintained that “you do not have to react instinctively or emotionally”, but rather “you have to be totally rational”, while at the same time he has delved into the fact that “you have to see what the opponent’s behavior is and if there is any mistake in calculation”.
The Iranian authorities have assured after the attacks that they will respond to Israel, amid fears in the international community about an expansion of the conflict in the Middle East and an outbreak of a large-scale war between both countries.
The Israeli Army carried out the aforementioned bombings, which resulted in the death of four soldiers and one civilian, within the framework of an operation that it presented as a response to the Iranian air attacks launched against the country on October 1, in which they were about 180 ballistic missiles were fired.
The Iranian attacks on Israel were described by Tehran as a response to the deaths of several leaders of armed groups allied to Tehran in the region. The Israeli Army confirmed that several of its air bases were hit, although it denied significant damage and refused to give details on the percentage of interceptions.
Lariyani has also spoken about the recent presidential elections in the United States, in which Republican Donald Trump has won, to highlight that he will have “absolute power” if it is confirmed that his party will control the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Furthermore, he explained that “part of the reasons why the Democrats have failed is their abnormal behavior towards Muslims in Gaza and their failure to take people’s feelings into consideration,” according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
This week, Trump managed to beat the vice president and Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, so that in January he will once again take office as president of the United States. During his first term, he launched a “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran’s authorities.
Thus, it unilaterally withdrew the United States from the historic nuclear agreement signed with Iran in 2015 and imposed a battery of sanctions against Tehran that led the country to reduce its commitments to the pact until Washington returned to compliance with its clauses.
In addition, in January 2020, the United States carried out a bombing against the airport of the capital of Iraq, Baghdad, in which it killed the then head of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Qasem Soleimani, and the ‘number two’ of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) — a coalition of Iraqi pro-government militias supported by Iran –, Abu Mahdi al Muhandis.
