Kenyan President William Ruto has announced a new trade agreement with Russia to encourage business cooperation after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is in the African country on an official trip.
The Kenyan president has assured that both countries will sign a trade agreement, without specifying the exact date, and has indicated that the volume of bilateral trade is at a low level despite “the existing potential” that exists between the two nations.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Ruto has called for a resolution of the conflict in a “respectful” manner for both parties, although he has reiterated that he plans to increase his commercial cooperation with Moscow, according to the TASS news agency. .
On the other hand, he stressed during his meeting with Lavrov the need to reform the UN Security Council to “make it more representative” and to include the interests of all African countries. “The continent could provide ideas, suggestions and experiences that would be very useful for the whole world,” he said.
A delegation of leaders from African countries is scheduled to travel soon to Moscow and kyiv to discuss a peace plan on Ukraine, after both countries have expressed openness to a mediation process led by South Africa.
