The Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has demanded this Thursday the release of those detained after the protests he organized this week in the country and which the authorities dispersed with tear gas after declaring them illegal.
Odinga has declared that he “condemns” the “illegal arrests” of various opposition leaders in Parliament, as well as deputies and activists “who have been charged in court for false allegations.”
“We demand that the charges be dropped unconditionally with immediate effect,” he stated before arguing that “these patriotic Kenyans who have been arrested have done nothing wrong,” according to Citizen TV.
During the demonstration this Monday, the Kenyan Police fired tear gas and used weapons with live ammunition against the delegation of the opposition leader, who promised “the mother of all protests” to continue the fight against the Government after the elections. of 2022, which it considers fraudulent.
During the mobilizations, there were clashes and episodes of violence between protesters and security forces that resulted in the death of a student.
