The vice president and Democratic candidate for the White House, Kamala Harris, reiterated this Friday, coinciding with the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur or Day of Forgiveness, Israel’s right to defend itself and has assured that it will “always” work to “guarantee security of the people of Israel and the Jewish people”.
“This year the holidays come at a particularly difficult time. Earlier this week, it marked one year since the brutal Hamas terrorist attack of October 7. And I know it has reignited what has been a deep and abiding fear among Jews “, not only in Israel, but also in the United States and around the world (…) As president, I will always work to ensure the security of the people of Israel and the Jewish people here in the United States and around the world,” has declared.
During a phone call with Jewish voters, the US presidential candidate insisted that she will ensure that “nothing like the horrors” of October 7 happens again. To this end, he assured that Israel “will always” have “what it needs to defend itself from Iran and Iranian-backed terrorists.”
Along these lines, Harris has attacked the Islamic Republic, which he has described as a “destabilizing and dangerous force” for supporting the Lebanese militia party Hezbollah and the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who also pose a “threat” to Israel.
In addition, the vice president has criticized her rival, Republican Donald Trump: “After Iran and its proxies attacked US bases and troops, Trump did nothing. And he withdrew from the nuclear deal without any plan, leading to a program Iranian nuclear power without restrictions,” he declared.
Likewise, he has warned that the former president “is not just a threat on the world stage”, accusing him of having made anti-Semitic expressions “his own dangerous and hateful” expressions and of having created “fear and division.”
The call occurred on the occasion of Yom Kippur or Day of Forgiveness, the most solemn and sacred holiday of the Jewish calendar and which its faithful celebrate this night of Friday, October 11 until the fall of Saturday afternoon.
Kamala Harris has addressed Jewish voters in the United States, once again reiterating her “unwavering” support for the Jewish state’s right to defend itself and its security. Likewise, he has once again stated that “it is time to put the conflict” in Gaza, defending a ceasefire and an agreement on the hostages.
Harris has assured that diplomacy is “(her) preferred path” to reach said agreement, while ensuring that “all options are on the table.”
“We are not going to give up (…) We cannot. And I will never stop fighting for the release of all the hostages, including, of course, the seven American citizens, living and deceased, who are still being held. We fight for them every day (…) And we cannot and will not rest until all the hostages are home,” he said.
On the other hand, the candidate has drawn on her long fight against anti-Semitism as a prosecutor and more recently as vice president of Joe Biden’s Government, and has promised that she will do “everything in (her) power” to combat it, if she wins. victory in the elections on November 5.
“I believe that everyone should have the freedom to practice their religion and express their faith, and freedom to be safe from violence and fear. That is what we are fighting for in this election. Ours is a fight for freedom , like the freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body, like the freedom to be safe from armed violence, like the freedom to love who you love openly and with pride,” he concluded.
