( Spanish) – The vice president of the United States and Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, reiterated this Friday some of the points with which she said she will seek to strengthen border security if she wins the November elections, while seeking to fix the country’s broken immigration system.
“I will take further measures to keep the border between ports of entry closed,” he said.
During a campaign event in Douglas, Arizona, Harris spoke to supporters after meeting with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials as well as Border Patrol agents.
During her speech, Harris said that, if she wins the elections, her government would prohibit entry into the country for five years for those who are detained trying to enter irregularly and that those who do not request asylum at the ports of entry will no longer be able to do so. among other measures.
“While we understand that many people are desperate to immigrate to the United States, our system must be orderly and secure, and that is my goal,” he said.
It was a notable shift that reflected how Harris’ campaign is trying to close the gap with former President Donald Trump on immigration by taking a tougher stance on border security.
