Josep Borrell criticises Israel for labelling the UN refugee agency as terrorist

He High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrellcriticized this Thursday the step taken in Israel to categorize the UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization.

“Outlawing UNRWA and labelling it as a terrorist organisation, which it is not, is equivalent to attacking regional stability and human dignity “of all those who benefit from the work of the UN agency,” Borrell said through his account on the social network X.

“We joined many partners to urge the Israeli government to put an end to this nonsense“, he added.

The Israeli parliament on Monday gave a preliminary approval of a bill for which UNRWA would become a terrorist organizationa rule that must still be the subject of further deliberation.

With more than 30,000 employees, UNRWA is the largest organization in Gaza outside the Gaza Strip government, which has been de facto controlled by Hamas since 2007.
