( Spanish) — José Ramón Balaguer, a combatant of the Cuban revolution, died this Friday at the age of 90, reported Granma, Official Organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, lamented via Twitter Balaguer’s death.

“On behalf of his colleagues from the @PartidoPCC, who gave prestige to his exemplary character, and to the people of #Cuba, to whom he dedicated his life tirelessly, our heartfelt embrace goes to the family and friends of Cdte José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera,” the president said. .

For its part, the Communist Party of Cuba expressed its pain, which it extended to the Cuban people and “to the revolutionary government of @DiazCanelB for the unfortunate departure of Commander José Ramón Balaguer. From the PCC we raise our flags in his honor.”

According to Granma, Balaguer was Cuba’s ambassador to the former Soviet Union, Minister of Public Health and in 2011 he assumed the position of head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the PCC, a job he carried out until 2019, when he asked General from the Army his release due to health problems.
