Jordan dismantles explosives found in a warehouse in an industrial zone near Amman

June 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Jordanian authorities have announced the discovery and controlled destruction of an undetermined amount of explosives found in a warehouse in an industrial area southeast of the capital, Amman, just days after a similar operation near a military airport.

The Department of Public Security, the Jordanian Police, has indicated in a statement published through its account on the social network Facebook that the discovery has taken place within the framework of the investigations opened after the first incident, which occurred over the weekend. .

“Security forces surrounded and isolated a commercial warehouse used to store explosives,” he said, before emphasizing that the devices were “detonated” with “the highest level of professionalism” and “without significant injuries or damage.”

Likewise, he has asked the population to “stick to the information published by the authorities” and to “cooperate with the security forces”, while emphasizing that “the case is being investigated and the details will be published once they are complete the investigations”, without commenting on who would be behind the explosives.

Amman has not indicated for now whether these explosives would be related to plans by terrorist groups. The first warehouse was near the Marka airport, used by US troops deployed in the country, amid increased tensions in the Middle East following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

The Israeli Army launched an offensive against the Gaza Strip after the aforementioned attacks, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 240 kidnapped. Since then, the Gaza authorities, controlled by the Islamist group, have reported more than 37,600 deaths, to which are added more than 520 Palestinians killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem at the hands of Israeli forces or in attacks by settlers.

During recent months, Jordan has said it has dismantled several plans for arms smuggling by groups linked to pro-Iran militias in Syria and Iraq, responsible for attacks against Israeli territory and United States military objectives in the Middle East within the framework of the conflict. .
