The Government of Japan has confirmed this Friday the death of one of its citizens who was fighting in the war with Russia on the side of the Ukrainians, one of the thousands of foreigners from more than 60 countries who have enlisted on the side of kyiv since the beginning of hostilities.
The chief of staff, Hirokazu Matsuno, has detailed that the mercenary is a 20-year-old, whose death was confirmed on Wednesday. Since then, the Embassy has made all available services available to the family to get the body to them as soon as possible.
Matsuno recalled at a press conference that since the start of the war a little over eight months ago, Japan has warned its citizens of the need to leave Ukraine, as well as to travel there under “no reason”.
“Those who are in the country should leave immediately,” Matsuno stressed, reports the Kyodo News agency.
