The Government of Japan has announced that the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, will participate electronically in the G7 leaders’ summit in Hiroshima, after statements by one of his advisers fueled speculation about possible assistance in recent hours. face-to-face
Japan’s Prime Minister Fuimo Kishida invited Zelensky to participate during a trip to kyiv in March. Technically, it is up to the Ukrainian government to decide the format, a more plausible possibility after Zelensky’s last European tour, which visited Italy, Germany, France and the United Kingdom — all of them G7 countries — in a few days.
A spokesman for the Ukrainian Executive, Igor Dzhokova, told the Japanese news agency Kiodo on Thursday that Zelenski would “carefully” study the situation on the battlefield and, based on that, would make a “final decision” on his participation in the Hiroshima summit, which fueled doubts.
