June 27. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has announced a new package of sanctions against Russia for the invasion of Ukraine that includes, among other restrictions, a ban on gold exports from Russian territory.
The president, who met on Sunday with the rest of the G7 leaders in Germany, has lamented that some organizations and institutions, such as the United Nations Security Council, have not been able to tackle the situation efficiently.
Kishida has clarified that the new sanctions affect another 70 individuals, as well as the exports of some 90 defense-related organizations, according to information collected by the NHK television network.
Likewise, he stressed that the situation in Ukraine puts the world “at a crossroads” and expressed that Japan rejects any “change of the ‘status quo’ that is carried out by force”, such as the invasion of Ukraine.
For this reason, he has expressed his commitment to strengthening the international order based on the rule of law and has stated that other countries must not “make a mistake when it comes to understanding the lessons that emerge from the Ukrainian crisis”.
Kishida has mentioned, in turn, a series of intrusions by Chinese ships in the waters of Japan and has criticized the development of energy facilities in the South China Sea.
On the other hand, he has highlighted the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and has said that he hopes for greater cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
