The Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, announced on Wednesday the shipment of drone detection systems to Ukraine in the framework of the Russian invasion to help the country strengthen its defense against Russian troops.
Kishida’s announcement took place during the NATO summit being held this week in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, a meeting that he has called a “historic moment for the international community.”
Although he has recalled the importance of not changing the ‘status quo’ through the use of force, he has promised that Japan will increase cooperation with other countries to “maintain and strengthen an open and free international order,” according to information from the news agency Kiodo.
Likewise, he has asserted that security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region are “inseparable” issues and has expressed his resolution to work to “strengthen relations between NATO and partner countries”, such as Australia, South Korea and New Zealand.
Kishida visited Ukraine last March and announced aid of almost 30 million euros in non-lethal material through the fund created by NATO, the same one that Tokyo will now use to send drone detection systems.
