Janet Jackson repeats false claim about Kamala Harris’ race

“Well, you know what they supposedly said? That she’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian,” the music icon told The Guardian’s Nosheen Iqbal.

Iqbal, in his article on the singer, referred to Jackson’s 1989 hit “Rhythm Nation” where he sings about uniting voices “in protest against social injustice” and moving toward “a world free of color lines” before mentioning the election and the vice president.

Jackson, after Iqbal accurately pointed out that Harris is both black and Indian, went on to cast doubt on Harris’s identity, saying he was “told” that the vice president’s father, Donald J. Harris, is white (he is not).

“I haven’t watched the news for several days. I was told that they found out that his father was white,” Jackson said, whose comments left the journalist stunned.

Jackson’s comments come after the former president Donald Trump falsely claimed that Kamala Harristurned black” while questioning the vice president’s identity at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in July.

Iqbal, later in his interview with Jackson, informed the singer that Harris “has a dual heritage” and asked if America is ready for her should she become president.

“I don’t know,” said Jackson, who is preparing for more stops on his Together Again tour.

“I don’t really want to answer that because I honestly don’t know. I think it’s going to be chaos either way.”
