The commander of the dissidence of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC)alias ‘Iván Mordisco’, appeared on Friday in a video announcing his readiness for a multilateral ceasefire with the Colombian government.
“The FARC-EP reaffirms our commitment to acquire with the National government its exploratory phase of engaging in frank dialogues in search of solutions to the social and armed conflict,” said the commander, reading a statement.
In addition, he pointed out that the illegal armed group must comply with the ceasefire, thus putting on the table a possible negotiation and dialogue with the Government.
“All units have been ordered to avoid clashes with the Public Force as much as possible, as long as we are not attacked, as a mechanism to create a favorable climate and initiate mechanisms agreements with the government for a bilateral ceasefire.” […] we expect reciprocity from the government”, announces ‘Iván Mordisco’ in the recording.
The dissident commander also proposes making a pilot plan with a “socio-ecological program on the coca border” and thus give the communities options to seek other options than coca and give them confidence in the search for another alternative.
With his reappearance, it is confirmed that the commander is alive, despite the fact that the government of former President Iván Duque had given him up for dead. in July this year.
In recent days, the Peace Commissioner, Danilo Rueda, signed a joint statement with four members of that organization raising the possibility of a bilateral ceasefire.
Without specifying with which armed groups, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Thursday that it would be a matter of days to publicly propose a possible multilateral ceasefire.
“It would be the beginning of the end of the violence in Colombia… with all [los grupos armados] that they adhere to that possibility”, Petro told the press, at the end of his agenda in New York after attending the United Nations General Assembly.
“To all those who want a negotiation process with the justice system in Colombia to dismantle criminal organizations, what we propose is to cease hostilities, crimes, death, cease fire,” added the president.
