CD Projekt may have gotten away with it despite the disaster of Cyberpunk 2077, because in the end the copies sold ensured good business, but it is a fact that the stay of the Polish company at the peak of success was short-lived and it was their own mistakes that caused everything to come crashing down. Before the debut of the controversial game, CD Projekt was making history by going from being a small company to the largest video game company in Europe, but only memories remain of that.

CD Projekt shares have fallen 75% since December 2020

A report of Business Insider Poland (via VGC) shared information about what he defined as the systematic drop in the price of CD Projekt shares since that unfortunate December 2020, the month and year in which Cyberpunk 2077 debuted and sank to its own hype. According to a historical review of CD Projekt’s asset performance on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, the price has fallen 75% from a market value of $8,130 million a little over 2 years ago to $2,110 million today. Unfortunately, this drop is more dramatic when remembering that with that value in 2020 prior to the launch of Cyberpunk 2077the company had become the most valuable in the industry in Europe, surpassing Ubisoft.

CD Projekt ceased to be the most valuable gaming company in Europe and Poland

The collapse in the price of CD Projekt shares also brings another impact against the company, this in terms of financial and business perception, since it not only ceased to be the most valuable in Europe, it also lost that title in its own country, Poland.

“CD Projekt fell apart and now Techland, developers of dying lightare the leaders in Poland”

In this regard, the report highlights the growth that Techland has had in the European country, responsible for dying lightwhich is currently considered the most valuable video game company in Poland thanks to the success of the franchise and the anticipation surrounding its next fantasy-themed game.

In the case of CD Projekt, the reality of Cyberpunk 2077 is that the base game will not see more improvements than those already released, except for updates to correct more bugs, so it will remain with all the absences of details and content indicated by the fans. The option in this case is the history DLC, but it seems that the Polish company is more interested in what happens in the future with its star franchise, that is The Witcherwhose new saga is already in development.
