Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to hold a meeting of the Israeli security cabinet in response to the rockets launched from the Gaza Strip after the Israel Police assault on the Al Aqsa Mosque, stating that “it is time for heads to roll in Gaza”.
“The government of which I am a part should respond energetically to the rockets launched from Gaza. Hamas projectiles require a response that goes beyond the bombardment of dunes and uninhabited sites,” said the minister, in statements collected by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
The security cabinet is expected to meet this Thursday, according to the aforementioned media outlet, to assess the steps to follow after the clashes at the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, and the exchange of rockets on the last day in response between the Israeli Army and the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu, stressed this Wednesday that his government “acts to maintain the ‘status quo'” and “reduce tensions” in the Esplanade of the Mosques, and has supported the thesis of the Israeli Security Forces: “Extremist Muslims entrenched themselves in the mosque kept them detained and prevented other Muslims from entering the mosque to pray.
For its part, the United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency session behind closed doors on Thursday, called by the United Arab Emirates, as well as by China and the representative of the Arab League, to discuss the upsurge in violence in Jerusalem.
