Israel's parliament preliminarily approves bills to revoke Israeli citizenship for "terrorists"

Jan. 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Israel’s Parliament has preliminarily approved this Wednesday seven bills to revoke Israeli citizenship or resident status to imprisoned “terrorists” who receive economic funds of any kind from the Palestinian Authority.

More than 70 legislators have given the ‘green light’ to the legislation, which states that both Israeli citizens and Palestinian permanent residents imprisoned after a conviction for terrorism will lose their nationality if they accept payments from the Palestinian Authority, either directly or through intermediaries, as reported by ‘Haaretz’.

The seven citizenship revocation bills, introduced by members of various parties including Religious Zionism, Likud, Otzma Yehudit and even the opposition Yesh Atid, will be reduced to a unified bill.

This approval comes a few days after the release of Palestinian prisoner Karim Yunes, who was asked by the Israeli Interior Minister, Arye Deri, and also a leader of the ultra-Orthodox Shas, to have his nationality revoked, according to the WAFA news agency. .

In fact, the Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, announced on Sunday the withdrawal of the entry permit for three senior officials of the Palestinian Authority who visited Yunis, recently released after serving 40 years in prison for murdering a soldier.

Younis was convicted along with his cousin Maher for the 1980 murder of military man Avraham Bromberg, who was executed with a shot to the head as the corporal was on his way home from his military base in the Golan Heights.

The new ultranationalist government of Benjamin Netanyahu imposed a harsh round of sanctions against the Palestinian Authority after the Palestinian government’s success in having the International Court of Justice investigate the legality of Israeli settlements in occupied territory.
