Israel's Parliament approves toughening sanctions for offering employment to illegal residents

May 22. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli Parliament this Wednesday gave the ‘green light’ to a law that toughens sanctions against those who transport, house or employ illegal residents in Israel, a measure expected to stop the employment of Palestinians from the West Bank without the corresponding permits.

The legislation, which has been approved in second and third reading in the Knesset or Parliament, contemplates revoking the business licenses of those accused of these reasons for one year and even confiscating their assets, such as vehicles or apartments.

The deputy of the center-right Israel Beitenu party, Yulia Malinovski, and promoter of the law has assured that until those responsible face economic sanctions “there will be no changes” in this regard, according to the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

This also occurs on the same day that the Israeli authorities have endorsed the return of Jewish settlers to several settlements located in the West Bank that were evacuated within the framework of the unilateral Israeli withdrawal plan, also known as the disengagement plan, and that It marked the end of all permanent Israeli civilian presence in the Gaza Strip and four settlements in the northern West Bank in 2005.
