MADRID Jan. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli Army claimed this Friday to have intercepted a missile launched from Yemen before reaching Israeli territory.
“Following the alert that was activated in Ptolomeo Elazar, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted before crossing into the country. Alerts have been activated,” he said in a publication on his profile on the social network X.
While the Houthi rebels have not yet claimed responsibility for the offensive, they have carried out dozens of drone and missile attacks in recent months against Israeli territory.
Unlike previous Houthi attacks, sirens were not activated in other areas of the country, suggesting that fragments of the intercepted missile were not expected to reach Israeli territory, according to The Times of Israel.
The armed group, which has the backing of Iran, began attacking Israel and other targets considered related in the waters of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in retaliation for the start of the military offensive in the Gaza Strip.
