September 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –

An Israeli policeman has been slightly injured after being attacked with a knife by an individual at the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem on Sunday afternoon.

In response, the officers opened fire on the attacker, although no information has yet been released on his condition, Israeli media reported.

The moment of the attack was captured by one of the security cameras and the recording has already been published on the Internet. It shows the attacker carrying a piece of clothing on his arm and running up to two police officers who were talking, taking his hand out from under the clothing and lunging at the officer.

Police said that after the attack with a sharp object, the attacker tried to flee, at which point the officers opened fire.

According to sources from the pro-Hamas Palestinian newspaper Filastin, the gates to the Temple Mount were closed due to the incident.
