Israeli defense officials have confirmed to the daily ‘Haaretz’ that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were responsible for the deaths of five minors in the northern town of Jabaliya as a result of last week’s bombing of the Gaza Strip.
Initial reports from Gazan authorities concluded that the civilian deaths were caused by an Israeli bombardment of the area, while the Israel Defense Forces denied attacking the city, saying it was due to a failed Islamic Jihad missile.
Keren Hajioff, a spokeswoman for Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, said at the time that Islamic Jihad members had fired a rocket into Israel “and it fell short”, hitting a Palestinian house inside the Strip, “killing at least to four children.
“We did not carry out any attacks in that area, neither in urban areas nor at that time,” Israel Defense Forces spokesman Ran Kochav said shortly after the incident in the refugee camp, according to The Times. of Israel’.
The war escalation lasted three days and left more than 40 Palestinians dead and 300 wounded, according to the Palestinian authorities. The Government of Israel confirmed on August 7 a ceasefire agreement to end the three-day war escalation in the Gaza Strip.
