September 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Israel’s National Intelligence Service (Shin Bet) has managed to thwart a plan by the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah to attack a former senior Israeli security official, although the country’s authorities have not provided further details regarding the target of the attack.
The Lebanese militia planned to carry out the attack in the coming days with a Claymore-type anti-personnel mine equipped with a remote detonation system that was seized by the Shin Bet, as detailed by the agency in a statement reported by the Israeli press.
Israeli authorities have contacted the former senior security official who was allegedly targeted in the attack, although he will remain anonymous for now for security reasons.
The Shin Bet said the seized explosive device was similar to the bomb that exploded a couple of days ago in a Tel Aviv park without causing any casualties, but was intended to target another senior Israeli official.
