A second kibbutz, Nir Yitzhak, announces that the Defense Forces have managed to recover the body of hostage Oren Goldin

Kibbutz Nir Oz announced on Wednesday that the Israeli army has managed to recover the body of hostage Maya Goren, who has been in the Gaza Strip since she was kidnapped during the attacks on October 7 by Palestinian militias.

“The family has been informed in the last few hours about the operation. The community will continue its fight to bring back all the hostages, the living for rehabilitation and the dead for burial,” local authorities said.

The kibbutz said Maya Goren, 56, will be buried next to her husband, Avner Goren, who was killed in militant attacks on the couple’s home, The Times of Israel reported.

A second kibbutz, Nir Yitzhak, has announced that the Israel Defense Forces have recovered the body of Oren Goldin during an operation in the Gaza Strip. The 33-year-old man was killed during attacks by Palestinian militants.

Goldin, who was part of the kibbutz’s civil defence team, was initially thought to be missing and held captive in the Palestinian enclave, but his family was informed last November that he had died.

The army confirmed on its website on Monday the deaths of two hostages: Alex Danzig, 76, and Yagev Buchshtab, 35. Their bodies “are being held by the Hamas terrorist organisation” in Gaza, it said, adding that it was not ruled out that they were killed by Israeli airstrikes.

Israel launched an offensive against the Strip following the attacks on October 7, which left nearly 1,200 people dead and some 240 kidnapped. The death toll has risen to more than 39,100, according to the authorities in the enclave, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
