Aug. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli army on Tuesday killed two Palestinians and wounded two others in an “operation to combat terrorism” in the West Bank cities of Jenin and Tulkarem, all amid an increase in incursions by Israeli troops in this territory since the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) against Israeli territory.
The Palestinian Authority’s Health Ministry has identified the victims as Qassam Muhammad Jabarin, 25, and Asem Walid Balaut, 39. Both were killed in Jenin by “occupation bullets,” a reference to gunfire by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and at least two other Palestinians were wounded, according to a brief statement posted on its Facebook page.
For its part, the IDF announced via its website late last night that “security forces have now begun a counter-terrorism operation in Jenin and the West Bank,” adding that it will provide “further details below.”
Israeli tanks have surrounded several hospitals in Tulkarem (the specialist Al Isra hospital and the government-run Thabet hospital), preventing ambulances from arriving and even searching one of the medical vehicles, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Israeli army operations and attacks by Israeli settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem have left more than 630 Palestinians dead since the escalation of such actions since October 7, when the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) carried out an assault that left 1,200 dead and 240 hostages. Palestinian authorities in the Gaza Strip have since counted more than 40,400 dead from Israeli attacks.
