Israeli army kills two Palestinian gunmen during operation in Tulkarem, West Bank

September 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli army killed two Palestinian gunmen on Tuesday during a military operation in the West Bank town of Tulkarem, as part of a series of activities launched following the attack on Gush Etzion, a series of settlements located between Jerusalem and Hebron.

Israeli forces exchanged fire with the two Palestinians as members of the army’s Duvdevan unit surrounded a building in the Danaba suburb of Tulkarem, sources close to the matter told The Times of Israel.

The two had previously hidden themselves and opened fire on the soldiers, who fired in the direction of the gunfire and “neutralized” them. Several weapons were subsequently seized by Israeli forces.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, the splinter armed wing of the main Palestinian Authority party, Fatah, has mourned his death and said that “they fought until their last breath before refusing to surrender.” “We renew our commitment to fight until the occupier is defeated,” it said in a statement reported by the Palestinian newspaper ‘Filastin’.

The Palestinian Authority’s Health Ministry has identified the two Palestinians as Rami Abbasy Nour Zait. It has also warned that a 16-year-old girl has also been killed by the Israeli Armed Forces in Kafr Dan, near Jenin, although the Israeli authorities have not commented on this matter.

Israel said last week it had launched a new operation in the West Bank to confront “terrorists” present there, prompting Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to cut short his official visit to Saudi Arabia to return and assess the situation.
