Israeli Army intercepts drone from Lebanon

Jul 29. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli army announced early Monday morning that it had intercepted a drone from Lebanon at a time of high tension over a possible Israeli offensive against the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah in retaliation for this weekend’s attack on the Druze town of Majdal Shams, located in the Golan Heights, in which twelve Israelis, most of them minors, were killed.

“Following the alerts that were recently activated in the Adamit and Yaara areas, fighter jets have successfully intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle that had crossed from the territory of Lebanon into the Western Galilee area,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on its X social media account.

The IDF also reported that there were no casualties in the incident and that the missile and rocket alert was activated due to “fear” of falling fragments.

These tensions have led to most flights scheduled to depart or arrive at Beirut International Airport tonight being delayed or cancelled. In fact, the United States has issued a travel warning for Lebanon due to “increasing tension in the region” which is causing “some airlines to adjust their flight schedules.”

The attack launched from Lebanese territory left 12 dead on Saturday in the Druze town of Majdal Shams, located in the Golan Heights, territory seized by Israel from Syria during the Six-Day War (1967) and the Yom Kippur War (1973). Israel effectively annexed it in 1981, in a move not recognized by the international community.

The Israeli army and Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran and has significant political clout in Lebanon, have been engaged in a series of clashes since October 8, a day after the attacks on Israeli territory by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions, which left nearly 1,200 dead and some 240 kidnapped.
