TEL AVIV, 22 Sep. (DPA/EP) –
The Israeli government unveiled plans on Thursday to increase the number of work permits issued to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
As detailed by the authorities, Tel Aviv plans to grant another 1,500 work permits starting next week, coinciding with the end of the Jewish New Year celebrations, known as Rosh Hashanah.
With this, Israel will increase the number of work permits for Palestinians to 17,000, according to the Defense Ministry unit in charge of civil affairs in the occupied territories.
This decision is made after an assessment of the security situation. Israel intends to create more stability in the region through economic incentives.
Around half of the residents of the Gaza Strip, inhabited by some 2.2 million people, are currently unemployed.
