MADRID 3 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli Army reported this Thursday that air defense systems have managed to shoot down a drone launched from Iraq against southern Israeli territory in an attack that has already been claimed by the pro-Iranian militia Islamic Resistance of Iraq.
“Recently, the Air Force intercepted a drone in the south of the country. There are no victims,” the Israeli Defense Forces said in a brief message published on the social network
This comes after a coalition of pro-Iran militias in Iraq have threatened to attack Washington’s military bases and “interests” in the country and the Middle East region should it carry out “any hostile action” against Iran in response to its missile attack against Israel.
The Israeli Army has intensified its offensive against Lebanese territory in recent weeks, which has sparked new tensions among Tehran’s allies in the region, including pro-Iranian militias in Iraq. The Israeli attacks in Lebanon have already left nearly 2,000 dead, including dozens of members of the Islamist group but also civilians, including almost 130 children.
The resurgence in hostilities is part of the clashes for nearly a year, after Hezbollah attacked Israeli territory a day after the offensive carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions. –in which almost 1,200 people died and another 240 were kidnapped– and which led Israel to unleash a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip, which has now left almost 41,800 dead.
