The Israeli authorities have announced the indictment of six Palestinians for their alleged involvement in a series of armed attacks carried out in the West Bank in recent months, mainly around the Shilo settlement, incidents that resulted in no casualties.
The Shin Bet has indicated that the defendants are Abdullah Haj Muhamad, Ibrahim Naasan, Muhamad Haj Muhamad, Mayed Naasan, Ayub Naasan and Abdelkarim abu Aliya, all of them residents in the West Bank town of Al Mughayir, as reported by the Israeli newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
Thus, the body has indicated that the cell to which they belonged had bought firearms in the area of the city of Jenin and was in contact with “terrorist elements” in the Gaza Strip to obtain financing for the attacks, without giving more details about it.
On the other hand, he has stated that the detainees published on social networks claims of authorship after the attacks, including videos under the name of the Group of the Martyr Raed Naasan, a Palestinian shot by the Israeli forces in Al Mughayir in November 2022.
Tensions have risen sharply so far this year, a period that has resulted in the deaths of nearly 190 Palestinians and more than 25 Israelis, amid fears of a general outbreak of violence in the region.
In this context, the Israeli Army last week launched an operation in the West Bank city of Jenin, the largest-scale carried out by Israeli forces in the West Bank since the end of the Second Intifada nearly two decades ago. The operation resulted in the death of twelve Palestinians and one Israeli soldier, as well as more than one hundred Palestinians wounded.
