IDF and local Palestinian sources agree that 14 Palestinians have been killed during the Israeli operation
The local leader of Islamic Jihad, presumed dead by his own family, reappears in images of the victims' funerals
April 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli Army has ended this Sunday an operation of more than two days in the Palestinian refugee camp of Nur Shams, in Tulkarem (West Bank) that has left 14 dead — “gunmen”, according to the Army; civilians according to Palestinian groups — and between 15 and 50 detainees.
Israel has confirmed that nine soldiers and one Israeli border police officer have been injured during the operation and their condition ranges from minor to serious.
Although Palestinian media, citing family sources, reported on Friday the death of a local leader of Islamic Jihad, Muhamad Jaber, alias 'Abu Shuja', the militant has appeared in images published in the last few hours by local media at the funeral of those killed in the Israeli operation.
According to local Palestinian sources, the deceased were between 16 and 39 years old, and their bodies have been carried in a procession from the Martyr Thabet Thabet Government Hospital to their burial sites.
Israel estimates that there are 15 detainees, while the Palestinian Prisoners Club estimates that around fifty have been arrested, although many have been released in the last few hours after interrogation.
Palestinians residing in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are staging a strike this Sunday in protest of Israel's recent military operation against the refugee camp.
The strike, called by the Fatah movement of the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, covers activities in schools, universities, shops, banks and companies, as well as all public transport routes, according to the Palestinian news agency. WAFA news.
