MADRID Dec. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli Armed Forces reported this Saturday the arrest of more than 240 “terrorists” at the Kamal Aduan Hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip in what it considers a “terrorist headquarters” of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
“Fighters from the 13th Battalion of the 401st Special Operations Division, investigators from Unit 504 and Shin Bet forces under the command of the 162nd Division and with intelligence guidance from Military Intelligence and the Shin Betn completed an operation against targets today, Saturday. terrorists in the Kamal Aduan Hospital area after receiving intelligence that the hospital area has once again been used as a Hamas terrorist stronghold and as a haven for terrorists despite the repeated calls to avoid military use of medical facilities,” the Israeli Army explained in a statement.
At the beginning of the operation, troops from the 401st Brigade surrounded the hospital and detained “terrorists hiding in the area” and “eliminated other terrorists.” Later, the forces of the 13th Battalion entered the hospital and found weapons such as grenades, pistols, ammunition and other military materials.
In total, more than 204 “terrorists from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other suspected terrorist elements” were arrested. “Some posed as patients and health personnel and some tried to escape in ambulances,” he said.
Israel has thus confirmed the arrest of the hospital director, identified by Palestinian sources as Dr. Hosam Abu Safiya. “He is suspected of being a Hamas member.” In addition, several members of Hamas’ anti-tank and engineering units have been detained, as well as 15 “terrorists who participated in the October 7 massacres.”
The military statement notes that “many of the terrorists who were in the hospital have declared having participated in terrorist activities in the area.”
During the assault, anti-tank missiles and rocket launcher projectiles were launched at the Israeli forces and “they attempted to carry out new terrorist attacks, with no casualties on our part.” “They quickly closed the circle and eliminated the terrorists. The Air Force attacked and eliminated several terrorists who were trying to escape,” the Israeli Armed Forces reported. In that same operation, 95 patients, companions and staff were evacuated to the Indonesian Hospital.
Israel has highlighted that in recent weeks 350 patients, companions and staff have been evacuated to the Indonesian Hospital in coordination with the Israeli authorities for the area. They also delivered “thousands of liters of fuel and hundreds of packages with food and medical supplies.”
“The Israel Defense Forces will continue to strictly comply with international law with regard to medical facilities, including those chosen by Hamas to locate terrorist infrastructure in flagrant violation of the norms of international law,” he concluded.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated yesterday Friday that some 60 health workers and 25 patients in critical condition have remained at the center, including those who are connected to respirators. Palestinian medical sources have indicated that the hospital has burned in several areas but Israel has replied that only “a small fire” occurred in the place, now under control, according to Israeli military sources to the ‘Times of Israel’.
The WHO denounces in any case that the assault on the Kamal Aduan has occurred in the midst of “access restrictions for the WHO and its collaborators” and that the hostilities “are destroying all our efforts and support to maintain the minimum operation of the center ” in what he interpreted as “a systematic dismantling of the health system in Gaza that represents a death sentence for tens of thousands of Palestinians.”
