Israeli authorities reported Tuesday that two civilians have been killed after the Shiite militia Hezbollah launched at least 40 rockets towards Israeli positions located in the occupied Golan Heights.
According to rescue services, a rocket directly hit the vehicle in which the two civilians were travelling, killing a man and a woman, The Times of Israel reported.
In recent hours, the Israeli military base of Nafah has been the target of bombings by the Shiite militia party Hezbollah, which claimed responsibility for the attacks in response to the death hours earlier of one of its men in a bombing carried out by an Israeli drone in the outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
“The bombing of the Nafah base was in response to the attack and assassination carried out by the enemy in Al Sabura on the Damascus-Beirut highway” in Syria, Hezbollah confirmed, according to the Lebanese channel Al Manar.
One of the two dead has been identified as Yasser Nimr Qarnbach, a former personal bodyguard of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The attack hit a vehicle as it passed near a military checkpoint in the Jdeidet Yabus area, on the highway connecting Damascus with the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
