The Israeli authorities confirmed this Thursday that two Thai citizens who were estimated to be part of the hostages captured by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) during their attacks on October 7, actually died that day and the Palestinian militia took their bodies to the Gaza Strip.

Specifically, they are Sonthaya Oakkharasr and Sudthisak Rinthalak, two citizens of Thai nationality who worked as farmers in the Beeri kibbutz, located just five kilometers from the border with the north of the Gaza Strip, as detailed by the Army spokesperson. Israeli, Daniel Hagari, at a press conference.

“On October 7, Hamas terrorists brutally murdered 39 Thais and kidnapped another 31 Thais to send them to Gaza. Like them, other foreign nationals were kidnapped, including citizens of Tanzania, Nepal, Mexico, the United States and France,” Hagari said.

“The terrible cruelty of Hamas was used against anyone who stood in its way, regardless of their origin,” added the spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), according to the local newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’. .

For its part, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated that the Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv has confirmed that, “after considering the available evidence”, the Israeli authorities “have concluded that two Thai nationals (.. .) have died.

“The Government of Thailand expresses its deepest condolences to their families, who have already been contacted by the Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv, while the agencies involved will provide all necessary assistance to the families,” Thai diplomacy highlighted in a statement. post on Facebook.

From Bangkok they have reiterated their firm call for the immediate release of all the hostages, including the six Thais still remaining in Gaza, and have urged the parties to “do everything possible” to reach an agreement to achieve a “solution urgent to the current situation of humanitarian crisis in Gaza”.

On October 7, Hamas carried out a series of attacks on Israeli territory that left almost 1,200 dead and 240 hostages. For its part, the Israeli Army responded quickly with a bloody military campaign in the Gaza Strip that has already claimed the lives of more than 35,000 people, mostly women and children.
