4 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Thursday the death of Itay Galea, a 38-year-old reservist who died as a victim of the massive attack carried out this morning by the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah, which launched up to 200 projectiles against the northern Israeli border.

Galea, originally from the city of Ramat Gan, located in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, served as deputy company commander of unit 8679 of the Yifath Reserve Armored Brigade, according to details provided by the Israeli Army in a brief publication on its official website.

Hezbollah said on Thursday it had launched “more than 200 projectiles of various types” against “several military bases” in Israeli territory from Lebanon, in a second wave of attacks in response to the death of commander Muhamad Nima Naser in an Israeli bombardment near the city of Tyre.

Earlier on Thursday, the Israeli army confirmed new bombings against Hezbollah “targets” in southern Lebanon, including a “military structure” in Shihin and three other “military infrastructures” in Balat, with no reports of deaths so far.

The Israeli army and Hezbollah – supported by Iran, which has significant political clout in Lebanon – have been engaged in a series of clashes since October 8, a day after the attacks carried out against Israeli territory by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions, which left nearly 1,200 dead and some 240 kidnapped.

Tensions have been rising in recent weeks, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently warning that the Israeli army is “prepared for a very powerful action” on the border with Lebanon, while the army itself claims to have a plan ready for this. For his part, Hezbollah’s number two, Naim Qassem, said that an expansion of the conflict would lead to “devastation and destruction” in Israel.
