Israel claims its right to self-defense after Iran attack and calls for more sanctions

April 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli Foreign Ministry warned this Sunday that the country has the right to defend itself after the launch last night of more than 300 projectiles from Iran against Israel and has called for more sanctions from the international community.

“Iran must pay a price for its aggression,” the Ministry said in a statement reported by 'The Times of Israel' newspaper.

There will be an “initial price” which must be the recognition of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization and an additional price in the form of sanctions, in particular against the Iranian ballistic missile program.

“This attack demonstrates what Israel has been saying for years: Iran is behind the terrorist attacks in the region and is also the greatest threat to regional stability and world order,” Israel argued.

Israel also refers to Iran's allies, such as the pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, the Houthis in Yemen or the Hezbollah militia party in Lebanon, who “supplemented” the Iranian attack with their own means.

Given this situation, “Israel, like any country, has the right to defend itself against Iran's massive attack.” “Israel has been able to defend itself against Iran's aggression and will continue to do so in the future,” she stressed.

The Israeli Army has confirmed that Iran's direct attack – the one announced by Tehran as Operation 'True Promise' – has included the launch of 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles and 120 ballistic missiles, “99 percent” of the which have been intercepted by Israeli defensive systems.

For its part, Iran has defended that these attacks are part of a legitimate response and its right to “self-defense” after the aforementioned bombing against its Consulate in Damascus, blamed on Israel and which resulted in the death of seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
