Israel carries out a 'targeted attack' in southern Beirut against a senior Hezbollah commander

Jul 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it had carried out a “targeted attack” in Beirut against a senior commander of the Shiite militia party Hezbollah, who is believed to be responsible for the deaths of twelve Israeli Druze civilians in the town of Majdal Shams, in the Syrian Golan Heights occupied by Israel.

The Israeli attack targeted a residential building located in an area close to a hospital in the Haret Hreik district in southern Beirut. Although there are no official figures, sources cited by the Lebanese daily L’Orient le Jour confirmed that several people were injured.

The target of the attack is believed to be Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr, a senior adviser to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and the person in charge of the group’s military operations in Lebanon, The Times of Israel reported.

Twelve Israeli Druze civilians, most of them minors, were killed on Sunday in Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights by what Israel said was an Iranian rocket fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon. Hezbollah, however, denies any involvement and blames an Israeli anti-aircraft interceptor missile.

Shortly after the Israeli army’s announcement, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a message posted on the social network X that the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah “has crossed a red line.”
