Israel bombs "suspects" who were "carrying weapons" used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon

MADRID Jan. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli Army carried out a bombardment this Thursday against a group of “suspects” who were “loading weapons” in several vehicles in southern Lebanon, while stating that all of them were operating near “military buildings” used by the Shiite militia party Hezbollah.

“A number of suspects were identified carrying weapons from military buildings used by Hezbollah into vehicles in southern Lebanon,” he said in a statement, in which he defended that the attack, carried out despite the ceasefire in force since the end of November, was aimed at “eliminating the threat.”

Thus, he stressed that “the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) remain committed to the understandings reached regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon, are deployed in southern Lebanon and will continue working to eliminate any threat to the State of Israel and its citizens”, without Hezbollah having commented on the bombing.

The Lebanese authorities and Hezbollah have denounced on several occasions that Israel is committing violations of the ceasefire, while the Israeli Army has stated that it is implementing the pact and responding to actions by the Shiite militia party, backed by Iran. The conflict left more than 4,000 dead in Lebanon, according to the latest figures from the authorities.
