The Israeli army announced on Saturday that it had attacked the Palestinian refugee camp of Balata, near the West Bank city of Nablus, with a drone, shortly after an attack there on an Israeli military post left one soldier slightly injured.
According to an army statement, reported by the Times of Israel, the attack was carried out by a group of Palestinian militants from a “position inside” the city. The soldier’s life is not in danger.
Shortly afterwards, Israel confirmed the drone attack on the refugee camp, without giving any further details. The official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, spoke of at least two seriously injured during “a large Israeli operation on land and air” amid intense gunfire and the sound of explosions.
Balata is the usual scene of military operations by the Israeli army, whose soldiers go into the area in search of suspected Hamas militants in the West Bank, such as the one that occurred in November last year and which ended with the death of Mohamed Zahad, considered a high-ranking Palestinian militant.
