The attack causes the closure of the highway, used by thousands of people in recent days to flee the country
Oct. 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli Army carried out several bombings this Friday against the surroundings of a civilian border crossing between Lebanon and Syria, less than 24 hours after denouncing that the Shiite militia party Hezbollah was allegedly using it to transfer weapons from Syrian territory.
According to information collected by the Lebanese newspaper ‘L’Orient-Le Jour’, a total of three bombings have hit the area of the Masnaa pass, cutting off the road that leads to the pass, used in recent days by thousands of Syrians and Lebanese who have fled across the border after the intensification of attacks and the start of a new invasion of the country.
The event has been confirmed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has pointed out that the attacks have caused “extensive damage” and have caused the closure of the highway that connects the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, with the capital of Syria, Damascus.
The organization has recalled that the crossing is considered one of the most important on the border and has added that, according to its sources, “Hezbollah has not used the crossing for arms smuggling in recent years” considering that “it is a crossing officer well monitored by Lebanon and by Israeli drones.
In fact, the group is considered to use other irregular routes to transfer weapons from Syria. Last week, Israel already carried out a series of attacks against these types of points, also arguing that it was acting against Hezbollah’s attempts to obtain more weapons.
The Israeli Army, which has not commented on these bombings for now, assured that Hezbollah “tried to use the civilian border crossing of Masnaa, on the border between Syria and Lebanon, for the transfer of combat assets to Lebanese territory,” therefore which called on Lebanon to intensify controls in the area.
Likewise, the Arabic spokesman for the Israeli Army, Avichai Adrai, said that the Masnaa crossing “has become the main crossing through which Hezbollah transports combat assets.” “The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will not allow the smuggling of these weapons and will not hesitate to act if forced to do so, as they have done throughout this war,” he threatened.
The resurgence in hostilities is part of the clashes for nearly a year, after Hezbollah attacked Israeli territory a day after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions. , which led Israel to unleash a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip.
