Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held a meeting with senior Israeli military officials on Thursday in which new “offensive operations on the northern front” were approved with the aim of “dismantling” the structures of the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah.
In addition to Gallant, the meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Herzi Halevi, as well as the head of the Intelligence Division and the head of the Army’s Operations Division, according to the minister himself on his social networks.
“We are continuing with the sequence of operations: eliminating Hezbollah terrorists, dismantling offensive formations and destroying missiles and rockets,” said Gallant, who stressed that Israel still has “additional tasks to complete” to culminate with the return of civilians to the north of the country.
“We will continue to unbalance Hezbollah and deepen its plight,” the Israeli defence minister said. Thousands of Israeli civilians have been forced to flee their homes in recent months due to attacks by the Shiite militia across the Lebanese border in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Israel has carried out several attacks in recent days against different parts of Lebanon, but especially against the capital, Beirut, in an offensive that has already killed more than 600 people and wounded thousands more. Both sides have confirmed that militia commanders are among the victims.
