April 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli authorities have announced the entry this past night of the first humanitarian aid convoy to northern Gaza through the new Northern Corridor established after the withdrawal of Israeli attack forces from the south of the enclave.

The corridor, finally announced on Wednesday by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, links the Israeli town of Zikim with the Gazan town of As Siafa.

“By decision of the Israeli Government,” announced the Israeli national agency for operations in the Palestinian territories, COGAT, “the first aid trucks entered yesterday from Israel to Gaza through the new Northern Corridor as part of the efforts to develop the humanitarian corridors for Gaza in general, and for the north in particular.

COGAT, in its X account, has added that the convoy first entered from Egypt through the Kerem Shalom pass, where it was subjected to “rigorous control” by the Israeli Army. The trucks subsequently made a 45 kilometer journey, bordering the enclave from south to north, before entering this new pass.

The Northern Corridor represents an alternative to the usual Erez crossing, currently closed amid the fighting and protests led by Israeli settlers against the arrival of aid to the Palestinian enclave.
