The Minister of Transport of Israel, Miri Regev, has signed three agreements in this sector with her Moroccan counterpart, Hamed Abdelyalil, taking advantage of the visit of the Israeli official to Morocco.
Specifically, both countries will mutually recognize driving licences, will reinforce their bilateral agreements in the maritime field and will promote direct links between the ports of the two countries, reports the Moroccan portal le360.ma.
“(These agreements) will strengthen cooperation between our two peoples, following the vision of His Majesty Mohammed VI,” Abdelyalil stressed, according to a statement from the Israel Liaison Office in Rabat.
Regev, of Moroccan origin, will extend his trip to Morocco until this Tuesday to visit the port of Tanger Med, where he will visit the facilities, and will also travel to the cities of Casablanca, Marrakech and Larache. The latter is the hometown of her father and it is the first time that the minister has visited the town. The minister herself will deposit a wreath in Rabat at the tombs of kings Mohamed V and Hassan II.
Morocco recognized the State of Israel in December 2020 within the framework of the Abraham Accords, sponsored by the United States. In return, Israel has recognized Moroccan sovereignty over the former Spanish colony of Western Sahara.
Since then, Rabat has purchased high-tech drones and other types of military and information security equipment from Israel.
