MADRID Dec. 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least one member of the Kurdish security forces has died and three others have been injured in an attack attributed to militants of the Islamic State terrorist group against a checkpoint located Al Kasrat, in the province of Raqqa, located in northern Syria. .
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London and with informants in the country, has indicated that the attack was directed against several members of the Internal Security Forces, known as Asayish, who operate in the northern and northeastern areas of Syria. under Kurdish administration in the context of the war that broke out in 2011.
On the other hand, the agency has reported the death of a civilian in his 50s after being shot by Islamic State cells for refusing to stop at a mobile checkpoint in the province of Homs, in the west of the country.
The fall of Al Assad, who fled on December 8 to Russia in the face of the dazzling advances of jihadists and rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), has raised fears of a possible resurgence of the Islamic State, which could take advantage of the gaps in security after the collapse of the security forces.
In this sense, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by the Kurdish militia People’s Protection Units (YPG) and supported by the coalition led by the United States, have also warned that the rebels’ offensive against their positions in the areas under Kurdish administration could weaken operations against the jihadist group.
