The Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) announced this Saturday the arrest of 32 suspected terrorists, including senior provincial officials of the Islamic State, during various operations launched in five governorates of the country.
The operations, according to the official statement collected by the Iraqi state news agency, INA, took place in the provinces of Anbar, Nineveh, Kirkuk, Diyala and Baghdad.
Despite their territorial defeat in 2017, Islamic State sleeper cells remain active in Iraq and Syria. In recent months, the Iraqi government has launched several arrest operations that have resulted in the capture of dozens of suspected affiliations with the former caliphate.
