The Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson assures that this support from Khamenei means that the students “have done something wrong”
May 30. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has written a letter addressed to pro-Palestinian protesters at US universities, who for weeks have been protesting across the country’s campuses to oppose the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip. and call for a ceasefire.
“I write this letter to the young people whose awakened conscience has motivated them to defend the oppressed children and women of Gaza. Dear young students of the United States! This is our message of sympathy and solidarity with you. You are now on the right side of history. Now you are part of the resistance front, and under the brutal pressure of your Government, which openly defends the usurper and ruthless Zionist regime, you have started an honorable fight,” he highlighted at the beginning of the text.
In that sense, he highlighted that the “resistance has been fighting for years in a distant place” with the same “perception and feelings” of American students to stop the “oppression of the Zionists” against the Palestinian people, who have suffered the application of an “iron fist” policy from the first day of the creation of the State of Israel, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim.
“Palestine is an independent land with a nation made up of Muslims, Christians and Jews, and with a long history. After World War II, the capitalists of the Zionist network, with the help of the British Government, gradually introduced several thousand terrorists in this land; their cities and towns were invaded; tens of thousands of people were killed or expelled to neighboring countries; their homes, markets and farms were taken away, and a Government called Israel was established in the usurped land of Palestine,” explained Khamenei, who has accused the Israeli authorities of carrying out a “genocide.”
Likewise, he has asserted that the United States is the greatest supporter of the “usurper regime”, even helping them to “produce nuclear weapons.”
“I want to assure you that today the situation is changing. Another fate awaits the sensitive region of the Middle East. Many consciences have been awakened on a global scale and the truth is being revealed. The resistance front will become stronger and stronger. History is also changing,” Khamenei added.
Finally, he highlighted the pro-Palestinian protests started around the world with the support of teachers and students, to whom he showed his sympathy, and recommended becoming “familiar” with the Koran, the holy book of Islam.
For his part, the spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Lior Haiat, has assured that Khamenei’s show of support means that the students “have done something wrong.” “If the Iranian supreme leader praises you, it means you have done something wrong,” he posted on his X social network account in reference to a screenshot of a brief message from the ayatollah.
Thousands of people have been arrested in the United States as a result of these protests, where there have been riots, clashes with the Police and acts of vandalism, and whose epicenter has been Columbia University, in New York. Both the American and Israeli authorities have shown their rejection of them, considering them as “anti-Semitic.”
