Aug. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard commander Hosein Salami has offered his condolences to the leader of the militant party Hezbollah over the death of its top commander, Fuad Sukr, following an Israeli airstrike in Beirut and has vowed revenge for the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the former head of Hamas’ political bureau.
Salami stressed that “the enemies of the nation, especially the Zionist entity and its supporters,” should expect “revenge” from the so-called axis of resistance, according to the Iranian state news agency IRNA.
Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Naim Qasem told the Lebanese channel Al Manar, which is affiliated with the party-militia, that the response to the recent attacks in Beirut and Tehran will be “important.”
Nasrallah had already said the day before that Israel had crossed a “red line” and that it would face the “wrath and vengeance of the group.” In recent hours, other resistance groups, such as the Houthi rebels in Yemen, have also made similar statements.
Haniyeh’s funeral was held on Friday at the mosque of Imam Muhamad bin Abdulwahab in Doha, the capital of Qatar, where dozens of leaders travelled to attend his burial at the Lusail cemetery.
Hamas has called for a “day of rage” to commemorate Haniyeh, who was visiting Tehran after attending the inauguration of President Masud Pezeshkian and died early Wednesday morning after an attack attributed to Israel but on which its authorities have not yet commented.
