Iran will resume talks with France, the United Kingdom and Germany on its nuclear program in January

The Iranian Government emphasizes that Tehran “has never been closed to participating at the negotiating table”

Dec. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Iran announced this Monday that in January there will be a meeting with the members of the E3 – made up of France, the United Kingdom and Germany – to address the situation surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program, amid the increase in the tensions of recent months.

“The talks will continue, with the agreement of the parties,” said the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baqaei, who said that “during the last week of January” there will be a new meeting, which will take place “with the same content and nature” than the previous ones.

“We will present our demands and concerns regarding the situation in the region and other places,” he said, before emphasizing that “Iran has never been closed to participating in the negotiating table,” according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim. .

In this sense, he has maintained that “over the last two decades, there has always been a commitment (from the Iranian authorities) to participate in dialogue and address concerns.” “You have to look at the other party to see who is to blame,” he concluded.

The announcement came days after the UN Undersecretary General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, urged the United Nations Security Council to “urgently” resume negotiations on the nuclear deal with Iran, in the framework of the increase in tensions in the Middle East in recent years.

Before the meeting at the international organization, the E3 countries published a joint statement in which they stated that “(Iran’s) reserves of highly enriched uranium have reached unprecedented levels, without credible civil justification,” amid the criticism from Tehran.

Iran, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, France and Germany signed the nuclear pact in 2015, the fulfillment of which allowed the lifting of the economic and financial sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council, the United States and the European Union including Iran, although Washington unilaterally withdrew in 2018, reinstating sanctions and causing Tehran to abandon part of its commitments.
